Here at Married in Leeds, we're always fans of alternative wedding venues. Steeped in history with original beams and fabulous real ales,
We've worked with some great make up artists over the last few years and Jo Bilham has a gentle and friendly approach when it comes to bridal make-up.
We caught up with cake baker extraordinaire Skye, recently to talk to her about weddings, and all things sweet and covered in icing!

Introduce yourself: I am the owner of The Whimsical Cake Company based in Yorkshire. I started out by being a failure at children’s buns and set about being able to bake simple cupcakes. I found a passion within which snowballed into me starting The Whimsical Cake Company.
What's the thing you love most about your job?: The best thing about my job is being able to create something for such a special day, meeting lots of different Brides and Grooms with totally different wedding ideas who allow me to bring their ideas to life.
What makes The Whimsical Cake Company stand out from all the other wedding cake creators?: What makes my business unique is that all my cakes are one of a kind. I do not have a set portfolio and my cakes range from a simple white elegant tiered cake, to a balanced teapot cake which defies gravity. I also offer Dessert Tables which compliment the Wedding Cake. I want each cake to be the focal point of the reception and for the guests to remember the cake.
What's the strangest request you've received?: The strangest request was for a wedding cake where Scooby doo was skiing down a mountain with a large ship balanced on top....as i say each couple are unique and this cake meant something to this couple.
What do you think the future of the wedding industry holds for your business?: My business is growing rapidly with more couples wanting Dessert Tables and opulent wedding cakes. More and more Brides are opting for something different for their wedding which means i get to push my imagination and create truly magnificent cakes.
What is it you love about your job?: My favourite part of the job has to be the response from people who see my cakes. I love to be creative and love to create the best cake i possibly can. When people see my cakes i want them to say “wow” A wedding cake or Dessert Table should be more than something you must have at your Wedding.
What do you do when you're not creating unusual wedding cakes?: When i am not doing cakes i love being around my family....i also love extreme sports...although i have calmed down a bit since having children, i am doing a Wing Walk later this year for my 40th.
What do you predict will be the next big wedding trend?: I predict the next big wedding trend will be full on opulent weddings, Brides are into DIY and vintage at present, but i am seeing more requests for Marie Antoinette style cakes.
If you were getting married what would be the one product of your own that you would choose?: If i could choose one product (or a collection) it would be a Dessert Table for my wedding. There’s nothing better than walking up to a table full of desserts and being able to choose anything you want. I love desserts, but i don’t eat cake now, i would prefer to have a macaroon or a cake pop.
Thanks to The Whimsical Cake Company for talking to us.
